Pluto has a frozen plain in the area that has been recently modeled and perhaps is still rebuilding in Today, as seen in images taken by the New Horizons probe and broadcast Friday by NASA.
The icy plains, the mission team has called Sputnik Planum after the first artificial satellite, was in a region of Pluto that is heart-shaped.
This region lighter than neighboring territories color, is north of the ice mountains 3,500 meters .
New close-up images of a region near Ecuador Reveal Pluto had a huge surprise, a young chain of mountains rising as high as 11,000 feet (3,500 meters) above the surface of the icy body.
These mountains
formed no more than a hundred million years ago, nothing compared to the 4,560 million years of the solar system. This suggests that this region, which covers less than one percent of the surface of Pluto may still be geologically active. According to mission scientists, this is one of the youngest ever seen in the solar system surfaces.
In addition, unlike the icy moons of the giant planets, Pluto can not be warmed by gravitational interactions with higher planetary body.
Scientists believe that some other process must be generating this mountainous landscape.
Images revealing
New remarkable details of Charon, Pluto’s largest moon, revealed in an image of New Horizons (LORI), taken at the end of 13 July 2015, from a distance of 289.000 miles (466.000 km).
Mission scientists are surprised by the apparent lack of craters on Charon. A strip of cliffs and valleys stretching some 1,000 kilometers from left to right, suggesting the existence of a generalized fracture in the crust of Charon, probably the result of internal processes.
In the upper right, in the curved part of the edge of the moon, a canyon that is estimated to be of 7-9 kilometers deep
appears. In the vicinity of the north pole Charon, a dark mark highlighted in the approach New Horizons has a fuzzy boundary, suggesting that it is a thin deposit of dark material.
Since its discovery in 2005, the moon Pluto, Hydra, has been known only as a blurred spot in shape, size and reflectivity uncertain. The images obtained have definitely cleared the unknowns.
