Solar plane lands in Hawaii after 120 hours flight – Azteca News

Kapolei, Hawái.- plane powered by energy site landed Friday Hawaii , after a historic five-day flight over the Pacific Ocean from Japan.

The pilot Andre Borschberg and his aircraft to a single passenger, Kalaeloa landed in a small airport just outside Honolulu.

The ideal flight speed of plane is 28 mph (45 kph), although it can double during the day, when the sun’s rays are most intense. The aircraft made of carbon fiber weighs more than 2,260 kilograms (5,000 pounds), or the equivalent of a minivan.

Borschberg and his co-pilot, Bertrand Piccard took turns to carry the plane on your trip around the world, since it took off in March of Abu Dhabi.

After his stay in Hawaii , the aircraft will fly towards Phoenix and then to New York. Only Borschberg was aboard the plane during this scale.

The project, which began in 2002 and has an estimated cost of 100 million dollars, aims to highlight the importance of renewable energy and spirit of innovation.
