Condemn Apple to pay $ 234 million to infringe patent – ElTiempo.com

On Tuesday, the jury of the district court based in Madison (Wisconsin) ruled in favor of the foundation that protects the intellectual property of the University of Wisconsin, who sued Apple in early 2014, and today he met the sentence.

In the lawsuit, the foundation alleged that Apple used patented technology in 1998 by the University of Wisconsin, inserted in several of its models of iPad and iPhone processors.

The jury ruled in favor of the foundation, but significantly lowered the compensatory amount and requesting the plaintiffs amounting to a maximum of 862.4 million dollars.

On that same patent, the foundation also demanded the company Intel in 2008 and the case was settled the following year for an undisclosed sum.

Apple is immersed for years in a legal battle with the South Korean company Samsung for patent issues. Recently a federal appeals court US Samsung said that Apple violated several patents, but the overall picture of the iPhone.

Apple announced it would appeal the verdict, but declined to comment further on the matter.
