Blackberry CEO, Thorsten Heins, in an interview with Bloomberg, expiration date has been set to boom of the tablets. “In five years I do not think there’s any reason to have a tablet,” he said.
“Maybe a big screen in the workspace, but a tablet, as we know it today,” said Heins. “Tablets are not a good business model.”
Blackberry, which earlier this year opened two new smartphone models , with and without keyboard, marketed the Playbook tablet, which Heins is found it when he took office. Never believed in it, and the data proved him right, as barely sold 150,000 units in a quarter, and discount. The adventure cost the company a loss of 400 million euros.
In the interview, Heins insisted on being different and original, and does not offer a proposal more in a market with many models of tablets. “In five years I see BlackBerry as a leader in mobile computing, which is what we are looking for,” he added. “I want to gain as much market share as possible, but not being an imitator.”
Blackberrybecame world leader four years ago, but has been losing market due to lack of innovation in their devices and the delay in its new operating system. If in 2010 was 14.8% of the global mobile market, currently below 5%.
