Lucy and Little Foot, hominid Australopithecus, could be contemporary, reveals a study published in the journal Nature .

It is believed that Australopithecus is an evolutionary ancestor of man who lived 2 and 4 million years ago.

Little Foot was found 21 years ago in a cave at Sterkfontein, and walked across what is now South Africa 3.67 million years ago, age makes it the oldest representative of its kind.

Lucy, moreover, is the most famous representative of the Australopithecus and his skeleton was discovered in Ethiopia. It is estimated that lived 3.2 million years ago.

Darryl E. Granger, a paleontologist at Purdue University, reports that while the cave still contains important information about the lives of Australopithecus, chronology remained controversial.
