MEXICO CITY (CNNExpansión) – The technology company Google acknowledges that its driverless cars have been involved in 11 accidents, although the vehicles were not the cause of these incidents .
The company says its vehicles are not responsible for any mishaps so far in six years of the project and more than one million kilometers traveled.
“If you spend enough time on the road, accidents will happen both in a common vehicle as one without a driver. During the six years that we have in this, our cars have been involved in 11 minor accidents (…) no one was caused by one of these, “he wrote Chris Urmson project manager in the new blog of Backchannel technology.
Urmson described in the article that its autonomous vehicles have been hit seven times in the back, especially in traffic lights. They have also hit them at the side signals that indicate “stop”, in addition to recording some incidents when driving on city streets.
“We have a detailed summary and try to learn something from every accident, whether or not our fault,” said the executive of Google.
The technology claims that constantly studies the behavior of drivers and determinants in collisions, which, according to the company, 94% are caused by driver error factors.
The inattention of the driver on the road, disobeying signals or not respect the traffic lights at intersections and timely not choose the lane in turns, are some of the most common causes of accidents in accordance with Google.
