Although they have found fish that heat a specific part of your body at times, scientists reported finding the first fish to fully warm-blooded: it is the sunfish
<. p> For all its anatomy blood circulates hot as in mammals and birds , which appears to be a competitive advantage in the icy waters of the deep sea.
The fish live between 40 and 400 meters deep . The study was done by researchers at NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration).
This silver fish, the size of a car tire, has been seen in many places. Nothing rapidly moving their large red pectoral fins like wings in the water.
The cold-water fish are usually slow and seek to conserve energy , but sunfish to move their fins warms your body , speeding up your metabolism, movement and reaction times, according to the study published in Science.
This makes a large predator that fast around, reacts faster and sees more acutely , said biologist Nicholas Wegner Science Center Fisheries in La Jolla, California, head of the study.
The scientists also found that their gills are different from other fish, allowing it to maintain a high temperature, endotherm, even in very cold water .
While mammals and birds have their much hotter body, sunfish is the first to have it hotter than the surrounding environment.
Some fish like tuna and some sharks warm parts of the body as the muscles and improve their performance while swimming, but the internal organs including the heart are cooled rapidly and begin to run slowly when they go into deeper water, forcing them to return to shallower to warm sites.
