I look up at the sky! The harvest Moon you saw the sky of gold – CNET in Spanish

The harvest Moon.

Stefan Seip/Astro Meeting/NASA

Friday night is perfect to contemplate the firmament. And the harvest Moon will light up everything, except for those moments in which the Earth blocks during a total eclipse penumbral.

you’re Not very familiar with the concept of the harvest Moon because, perhaps like me, you make the most of your crop on Amazon or in the shops of the corner. The concept simply refers to the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox, that is the time that, traditionally, farmers harvested most of their crops in the Northern Hemisphere.

But the harvest Moon does not receive its name only by the time of the year that it happens, but there is another special reason. It is also the time of year in which the difference of time between the departure of the moon from one day to another is minimal. In other words, on most nights the Moon rises an average of 50 minutes later than the previous day, but this time of the year, averages 30 minutes.

according to NASA, it makes it seem that there is a full moon for several nights in a row. Because of all this extra lighting in the early hours of the night, the peasants could work for more hours, and therefore, it is known as the harvest Moon.

This year, in addition to seeing the big and beautiful harvest Moon on the horizon, most of the earthlings in the eastern Hemisphere will be able to be witnesses of something special: that beautiful moon round will be dimmed briefly as it passes through the penumbra of the Earth.

The darkest moment, or the peak moment of the eclipse, it was 11:54.m. Pacific time, which means that the inhabitants of north and South America will not be able to see it, but those who live in Eastern Europe and Central Asia yes they had luck.

The observatory Slooh has a stream of the eclipse, in case you missed it:
