WhatsApp: Falla put at risk 200 million users – RPP News

The web version of the courier WhatsApp presented a vulnerability that endangered the information of 200 million users , the security company Check Point said.

As detailed the company, Users of the web version of the service (only part of the 900 million total users of the application) were in danger of becoming victims of “ransomware” (software that virtually kidnaps devices and calls for payment to be unlocked).

To the hackers was to know how a telephone number in order to deceive users of the web service , simulating the request credentials doing the same WhatsApp .

Note that this flaw has been patched, so upgrading the application is recommended.
