Russia has launched the space a Rokot carrier rocket with European satellite Sentinel-3A on board since the сosmódromo Plesetsk in Arkhangelsk province, reports the European Space Agency (ESA).
launch took place at 17:57 GMT and is expected to perform Sentinel-3A its orbital motion at a distance of over 800 kilometers from the Earth.
Sentinel-3A is the third satellite of the monitoring program environmental Copernicus, implemented by ESA.
the aim of this satellite is to obtain maps of the surface of our planet with the so-called Sea and Land surface Temperature Radiometer (SLSTR, for its acronym in English), a device to allow Sentinel-3A also determine the temperature of the water and land surfaces with greater precision.
the device ESA also be used to measure the elevation or the color of the land and oceans evaluate the thickness of the ice shelves, determine the biological activity of the oceans and identify changes in sea level and changes in the pollution of our planet.
