Yesterday, the US chain Hilton Hotels announced that he had undergone a cyber attack designed to steal banking customer data.
According to specialized computer security iSIGHT Partners firm, the malware used in the attack is called ModPos and was created in 2012, although its activity was not detected until a year later and in 2014 went to retail outlets in the United States.
The company placed him after months of preliminary investigation.
Unlike others infected through an attachment, the virus is designed to attack POS systems (Point of Sale) and steal data from credit cards of millions of users. While their reach is unknown, the company has grounds to believe that ModPos may have links with Eastern European hackers.
ModPos is a modular threat “may go unnoticed by many types of defenses of modern security” and is aimed at systems POS with keylogger, that is, to record everything that is marked on a keyboard, he said iSIGHT Partners to highlight which is a highly sophisticated and complicated malware detection.
For now, the Hilton hotels have been forced to strengthen their security systems, and assured that the company “is firmly committed to the protection of payment card information of customers” and regrets “the inconvenience” from 18 November and December 5, 2014, and between April 21 and July 27, 2015.
