MEXICO (Notimex) .- The asteroid 2013 TX68 will approach to Earth on March 5, reported the Administration National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) , which ruled that the object can impact the planet at that time.
However, scientists from the Jet Propulsion in Pasadena , California, identified a remote possibility (one in 250 million) of the asteroid 30 meters in diameter can hit Earth 28 September 2017 .
The NASA explained that in March this object will pass at a distance of between 17 thousand kilometers (nearest) to 14 million kilometers (the farthest) from Earth.
variation in the distance depends on a range of possible trajectories of the object, said the US space agency said the specialists know precisely this asteroid’s orbit around the sun.
the manager of the Center of Studies ( CNEOS), Paul Chodas , predicted that during the approach of the asteroid to Earth in March, scientists can observe it with a telescope and gather data to help define more precisely its orbit.
the scientist said the chances of a collision in any of the three future dates overflight (in March 2016, 2046 and 2097) are too small to cause any real concern.
the NASA recalled this small asteroid passed two million kilometers away from Earth two years ago and found the October 6, 2013 by Catalina Sky Survey .
Chodas added that if an asteroid the size of 2013 TX68 entered the Earth’s atmosphere could cause an explosion close to twice the energy that produced the asteroid that hit Chelyabinsk in Russia three years ago
