Scientists and insurance companies have partnered to develop a ‘death clock’ that can predict when customers will die. Thus, statisticians, computer scientists and doctors at the University of East Anglia (UK) are launching a project using databases in order to determine the condition of long-term illnesses and, ultimately, hope life, reports the website of the university.

Although many people prefer not to know how much is left of life, the team argues that this research will bring practical benefits, financial and medical. For example, help people plan for their retirement or know how drugs such as statins or beta-blockers affect longevity.

“People increasingly live around the world. We want to develop tools’ software ‘that use large volumes of data (‘ big data ‘in the original) routinely collected by health professionals to predict longevity, “says Elena Kulinskaya, Faculty of Computer Science at the University of East Anglia .

“We want to identify and quantify the key factors affecting mortality and longevity, such as lifestyle, medical conditions and medical interventions,” adds Kulinskaya.

the project, which is funded by a grant of 1.15 million dollars from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFOA, for its acronym in English), is served employees of the insurance company Aviva.
