Spain will be one of the two venues that will host the gamma ray telescopes that are part of the Cherenkov Telescope Array Project, writes El Pais.
So, La Palma, an island in the archipelago Canarias, will host the global network of such telescopes in the northern hemisphere, while Chile will become the headquarters in the southern hemisphere. In the competition to join the project also involved Mexico.
The main objective of the Cherenkov Telescope Array is to detect high-energy gamma rays in the universe.
