Anticipation of an announcement about the detection of gravitational waves – ABC Color

WASHINGTON. The scientific community is expectant before the possible announcement about the detection of gravitational waves, whose existence was made a hundred years ago by Albert Einstein and would better understand the origin of the universe.

The expectation is given by the press conference today by a group of scientists from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the LIGO (laser Interferometer Observatory gravitational wave) Scientific Collaboration to report research on gravitational waves.

LIGO stands for an international experiment that since 2004 seeks to detect these waves directly, of which already have indirect evidence of their existence and with whom you can study the origin of the universe.

gravitational waves are undulations produced in the space-time very violent events like the explosion a supernova or the merger of two black holes, which are spread throughout space.

the theory holds that these waves abound and carry information about the phenomena that originated probably the Big Bang itself that resulted in the Cosmos.

If you could prove its existence, would be one of the greatest scientific discoveries of our time, because his encounter would fill a major gap in understanding the origin of the universe.
