RUSIA.- The “Progress M-27M” Russian space shuttle orbiting for days out of control, entered the Earth’s atmosphere and disintegrated. Admission occurred on the Pacific Ocean, as announced this morning a spokesman for the Russian space agency Roscosmos to the Tass news agency.
The researchers had predicted that the ferry, which weighed more than seven tonnes, would disintegrate almost completely, except for the parts of titanium and stainless steel.
The remains of these materials not disintegrated fell into the South Pacific, reported Roscosmos. This uninhabited region, located far from the west coast of South America, is considered as the “graveyard of spacecraft”. And there fell many satellites, shuttles and in 2001 also ended there the space station Mir.
The “Progress M-27M” was released in late April from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, driven by a Soyuz carrier rockets and loaded with 2.4 tons of supplies destined for the International Space Station ( ISS).
However, the carrier rockets erred in reaching the planned orbit. As a result, the ship turned on its axis toward a wrong orbit and it was not possible to stabilize using radio signals. The cause of the defect shall be cleared at the latest until 13 May.
According to the Russian space agency, the ISS has for the moment with enough food and technical material. Still, the coming weeks will take off another ferry bound for the ISS.
The incident led to losses of 88 million euros, according to Moscow. The ruling will also have implications for new flights into space. Roscosmos delayed until June 11 return of the three astronauts on the ISS are.
In addition to Russia postponed by several weeks the launch of a manned mission to the ISS scheduled for May 26 mission. The researchers are concerned about the explosion of the third stage of the Soyuz carrier rockets, the same used in manned missions.
