Oceana studies Balearic seamounts south of … – Journal of Ibiza

The conservation organization Oceana launched a campaign yesterday in Palma marine exploration ten-day in coralline reef and three seamounts Balearic Sea, south of Mallorca, with the aim of documenting the habitats and species they support and help to protect them.

The Director of Oceana in Europe, the Spaniard Xavier Pastor, is the head of this campaign intended precisely define the surface of coralline reef near Cabrera and three seamounts located in the Canal de Mallorca, facing its future protection announced by the Ministry of Environment.

Scientists coralline reef will work in Fort d’Moreu, east of Cabrera, and on seamounts Emile Baudot (known as the Port from French), and Ses Olives Àusies March, three located in the channel between Mallorca and Ibiza and Formentera .

“We want the three seamounts are protected and Fort d’en Moreu be included in a marine reserve area expanding the Cabrera National Park,” said Pastor.
