California, 13/08/2015 (The People’s Daily Online) – An international team of scientists has sequenced the genome of the two-spotted octopus California (“Octopus bimaculoides”). Following the findings, researchers are now closer to discovering the genes involved in the biology of this unusual creature, including the ability to change skin color and texture, and a distributed brain that allows its eight arms move so independent, making it the first intelligent being of our planet.

The research was conducted by scientists at the University of California, Berkeley (USA), the Institute of Science and Technology Okinawa (OIST ) in Japan and the University of Chicago. The results are published in the edition of August 13 issue of the journal “Nature”.
