Twitter eliminated on Wednesday the character limit for direct messages between users, indicating that it will help to return “more powerful and fun” private part of the network. Now private messages no longer have the 140-character limit applied to the tweets.
“Though Twitter is primarily a public experience, direct messages can have private conversations about memes, news movements and events that arise in Twitter, “said product manager Sachin Agarwal in a message on the company blog. “This change is another big step back even more powerful and fun private part of Twitter,” he added.
By far the changes users who use mobile devices with Android and Apple operating systems are applied, who access the site on twitter.com or TweetDeck application but Agarwal said the change “will continue to spread worldwide in the coming weeks”. The 140-character limit still applies to those who send messages by SMS.
The decision was announced when the company based in California finds a very slow growth of its user base compared with other social networks and looking for a new CEO
