Experts seek origin of dark matter in the universe – Azteca News

Mexico, DF.- Scientists in conjunction with Octavio Valenzuela, a researcher at Institute of Astronomy at UNAM, is conducting studies concerning the origin and composition of the dark matter the universe.

In the early ’30s, a Swiss astronomer named Fritz swicky, he studied the motion of galaxies in which it concluded that if the added mass of stars and gas in each galaxy, the gravity generated by them would not be enough to prevent all the galaxies came out fired.

Because of this, the scientist determined that there must be more to prevent that, and was then speculated about a possible indeterminate material that could be involved. Halfway through the 70s, an American astronomer called Vera Rubin studied the motion of stars in the Andromeda galaxy and saw that indeed there was much more material than could be visible.

That is why the theory more accepted by the scientific community is that the model of particle physics may include other similar but have not yet been detected.

The beginning of the theory

According to experts, if you count the number of stars in a galaxy, based on the light emitted, we can get a certain value for the weight of those sets of stellar bodies. Put another way: if measured how fast spin, you can set your weight. When astronomers applied this technique, they noticed that the values in mass were larger than those obtained by counting the number of stars and quantity of gas, which had been doing before.

importance of dark matter

Dark matter is the skeleton of the large-scale structure of the universe; Similarly, it ensures that galaxies are not randomly distributed and integrate a kind of cosmic web. It also has properties that are not yet known and defines how many there are galaxies.

How is it detected?

To detect dark matter in the universe uses several methods, the first is indirect, where possible particulate particles that this may have analyzed; if two come to collide, they annihilate and produce a gamma-ray emission, which can be studied

On the other hand, you can use to analyze how compatible its properties with those of galaxies.; and conversely, to check whether the study of an observable is possible to say what it is made.

Recently, Octavio Valenzuela Tijerina, researcher at the Institute of Astronomy at UNAM, in collaboration with scientific institutes Physics and Nuclear Sciences and the University of Guanajuato, among others, seeks to prove that dark matter is not just made up of particles, but by fluids where galaxies and large-scale structure of the universe, act as waves.

“It is a fact that in galaxies no more gravity than produce its luminous matter, if the theories of Newton and Einstein is what we were taught in school. However, it is the possibility of such change and explain the phenomenon, but still none to be changed, in general and self-consistent, gravity to explain without spoiling other things proposes “said Octavio Valenzuela.
