The drone DJI Phantom 4 avoids obstacles, is faster and follows you everywhere – CNET in Spanish

After several years of experimentation, I have under my belt several accidents. And none made me more nervous than when the drone flying crashed into a tree or my neighbor’s house.

This is one reason why the ability to avoid obstacles is the main feature of the drones this year and what the new DJI Phantom 4 has over its predecessors and most of its competitors. This cuadricóptero robursto has sensors in the front part, eyes that help you avoid obstacles at a distance of between 0.7 and 15 meters (2.3 to 49 feet), and if you can not avoid them remains static in the air until the guides by the right direction.

The drone also uses sensors to avoid crashing into obstacles when active mode automatic return. This should mean that you need not worry if there are any buildings or trees between your position and the Phantom 4.

But before you get excited much, I tell you that the system will cost. Phantom 4 will sell for US $ 1.399 in the United States and you can pre-order through of DJI.com and Apple.com, and DJI advises that customers will start receiving their orders on 15 March. on the same day you can buy in retail stores and Apple DJI. other retailers begin to meet on March 23 for delivery on April 1.

Video of higher quality, and autonomous

the Phantom 4 uses optical sensors to avoid crashing into obstacles, but also to fly autonomously. the new method ActiveTrack, available through the app Go DJI, using new sensors to track an object. the tracking mode the pilot, called follow me, is nothing new in the DJI drones or other brands, although they generally they use the GPS to track a subject, which requires that they have over the remote control or a radio beacon. But it is not a very accurate system and may delay in changing the course of the unit.

With the ActiveTrack 4 Phantom mode, touch the object on the screen and begins to follow the drone, keep the camera focused on the person or object you chose. DJI states that even if the subject changes or turns, or others entering the field of view of the camera, it must remain focused on the object or person you chose. In addition, you maintain full control of the movements of the camera to get the shot you want.

Another method, called TapFly lets you double-tap a point on the screen and the Phantom 4 goes to that place, avoiding obstacles along the way. If you touch another point on the spectrum display, the device is directed to the new place. Basically, it lets you create a flight plan in real time. And if at some point you want to stop and think in a new direction, a new pause button on the controller causes the drone stops and stay static in the air over a given point.

Races

Although the above Phantoms were fast, they were designed to take pictures and videos, not to throw races. To give a little more versatility to the Phantom 4, DJI made the body and more aerodynamic stabilization system and added a Sport mode. Simply activating a switch on the controller, the cuadricóptero fly at speeds of almost 45 mph (72 kph). You can also ascend and descend faster so you can realize faster or simply making fun flying it at high speed.

DJI promises that the drone will have a range of top flight of 28 minutes (though not 45 mph) due to a more powerful battery, improved engines, a control system power consumption and a chassis again design. That’s just 5 minutes longer than the Phantom 3 Professional, but could mean the difference between getting the shot you want or lose it.

The camera is the component with fewer changes compared to the excellent Phantom 3 Professional. DJI reports that it has added an option in slow motion capture in 1080p format at 120 feet per second, and has improved the lens to reduce chromatic aberration and enhance details in the corners. The downside is that the camera can not be removed from the apparatus.

Similarly, although the landing gear is shorter and wider, for more stable landings, neither can be folded for storage. It is possible that these are minor complaints, but with a price of US $ 1.400, to change the camera or fold the legs would be beneficial.
