The ‘Eye of Sauron’ hunted in space – TeleCinco.es

SPHERE, the new instrument of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) to search exoplanets created, opened her eyes for the first time and saw none other than the ‘Eye of Sauron’.

The 'Eye of Sauron' hunted in space

And …

    class=”lst-relinfo reltype2″>
  • Un video shows the great solar explosion that exceeds seven times the size of Earth
  • Detectan a huge explosion in a nearby galaxy to Earth
  • La NASA presents its ‘selfie’ Earth
  • La Statue of Liberty and the main center of NASA, at risk of disappearing

The sinister image yet has nothing to do with the demon of ‘Lord Of The Rings’. It is simply the star HR 4796A and a dust disk around it . The star is about 237 years light of us, in the constellation Centaurus, reports RT .

The photo illustrates the high resolution that can reach SPHERE (acronym for Spectro-Polarimetric High-contrast Exoplanet REsearch or ‘search for exoplanets with spectro-polarimetry High contrast ‘), which was designed to capture direct images of extrasolar planets.

Get direct images of exoplanets is extremely difficult because the pictures’ normal’, even in the best conditions, the starlight completely hides the much weaker planets glow. Therefore, SPHERE, installed on the VLT (Very Large Telescope) of ESO’s Paranal Observatory in Chile, joined innovative technologies will achieve the maximum contrast possible to observe small patches of sky around stars.
