The moon was caused by the collision of Earth with another planet – Worth

itemprop=”articleBody” class=”tx mce”>

A study published by the journal Science shows that moon originated by a collision between Earth and another body of size similar to Earth called Theia about 4,500 million years ago.

Most theoretical models of this collision involved a larger portion of Theia on the Moon than on Earth . And how the moon was formed? The collision caused lot of debris around the Earth. These residues were joining up shapes the moon.

In this paper we have measured the amount of isotopes of various elements , such as oxygen, titanium or silicon. In the Solar System the presence of isotopes in different bodies that form is heterogeneous, it follows that isotopes present in the moon and the earth should be different. However, the Attempts at identifying the isotopic composition in lunar rocks Theia had failed due to the similarities between Earth and the Moon.

Researchers analyzed moon rocks brought back by astronauts of Apollo 11, 12 and 16, a newer samples provided by NASA missions and terrestrial rocks. They used latest techniques to they compare proportions of two isotopes of oxygen . And discovered they had higher levels of oxygen isotopes than terrestrial rocks tested .

This discovery could be the key to ensuring that the collision occurred and it also shows the geochemical composition of Theia. The study shows that it would be possible the Moon was composed by 50% by Theia materials and the other half by the materials ‘early Earth’.

Planets of the Solar System originated by collisions between dwarf planets orbiting around the sun collisions, these small planets melted together into increasingly a Large planets.
