A lunar eclipse. | Carlos Lago - The Mundo.es

Thursday, April 25, there will be a partial lunar eclipse which can be seen throughout the country. Only 2% of the satellite will be in the shadow cone of the Earth , ie only notice a slight dark area in the upper left of the Moon. Thus, although it can be seen with the naked eye, experts recommend the use of binoculars for more detail of the event.

As explained astrophysicist and head of Didactic Museum of Science and the Cosmos (Tenerife), Oswaldo Gonzalez, in his blog ‘Galaxies and Centellas’, a lunar eclipse occurs when the latter, in monthly rotation around Earth, is introduced into the shadow cast by the planet in space. This can only happen when the Moon is pointing away from the Sun , being in its full phase.

Thus, if the satellite is fully inserted in the shadow, the eclipse is complete , but if you just make it a part of the lunar disk will be a partial eclipse , as in this case.

As

observation mode, Gonzalez has indicated that simply have to wait for the sunset will occur about 2130 hours (GMT). Between 21.54 and 22.21 , the partial eclipse will take place, with 22.08 at the time of greatest obscuration .
