Disclosure Open Telescope (Observatorio del Teide). | IAC - The Mundo.es

You do not need a telescope at home to explore the mysteries of the universe. Thanks to the GLORIA project (GLObal Intelligent Robotic telescope Array for e-sience), any Internet can live through the web, the experience involves looking for Disclosure Open Solar Telescope (TADs) from the Teide observatory.

Several webcams from home to see the possibilities for TAD as if you were watching from the Teide observatory, including the opening image of the dome that exposes the telescope to the sky.

explains Miquel Serra-Ricart, project manager at the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands (IAC), the purpose of this initiative is to achieve a total interactivity and form an entire community around GLORIA.

His intention is to achieve involvement of citizens in the world of space exploration , may approach the research in this field through various outreach projects and conferences which also offers the program, although the nature of the experiments and observations are most welcome in teaching or students educated in the matter.

order to make the observation, the user must resgitrarse the GLORIA project website and you will be directed to a specific date as a ‘Private Practice’ in which the user can handle virtually the Teide observatory telescope during fifteen minutes. For proper operation of the telescope, will have a manual and other teaching resources.

may also participate in experiments to be promoted from the project. At present there are three experiments that are underway, such as the calculation of solar activity, with the possibility that Internet users can contribute their observations through the Internet.

“In the long term it is intended that the users can suggest new experiments, such as the search for new comets, even promoting the community decide which ones are most popular and which are necessary or should be developed,” says Serra-Ricart.

Currently this Disclosure Open Solar Telescope is the only one available is underway GLORIA project, but soon will be assigned to this initiative to 17 telescopes from eight countries different, with implementation in Africa , Europe, Asia and America. Furthermore, GLORIA aims to incorporate individual telescopes also willing to participate in the project.

This will create a network of telescopes that allow a large number of users can access the contemplation of the cosmos. This system may continue major astronomical events , as the next total solar eclipse in Kenya, on 3 November.

GLORIA

has been funded by the European Union through its Framework Programme, which has seen the involvement of citizens as a fundamental value developed by this initiative.

The project will finance three years , deadline for which will already be raised to 17 telescopes in operation and developed the interactive network. Serra-Ricart expected within six months are integrated and 90% of these telescopes, but at the end of this month and will have two telescopes connected nightspots.
