Google’s autonomous cars already circulating on public roads – ABC Color

SAN FRANCISCO. Google’s autonomous cars already circulating in real conditions on the routes of Silicon Valley in California (western US), more precisely in the town of Mountain View, headquarters of Internet giant.

For security reasons, the maximum speed is 40 km / h, in order to limit costs if the car leaves the road and crash into obstacles.

“During this phase of our project, we will have ‘security drivers’ board with access to a steering wheel, accelerator pedals and braking that allow them to take control if needed,” said Google Thursday.

These mechanisms were the requirements imposed California authorities to enable progress to the phase of experimentation on public roads. The American company in May indeed obtained the green light from California.

So far, the Mountain View firm was only entitled to circulate some modified cars Lexus, Toyota’s premium brand.

Unveiled a year ago, the Google Car is a small electric car more redondeado- for up to two people-a kind of Smart simple design.

When embarking on public roads, Google hopes additional data in order to improve this technology, particularly when it comes to unexpected and occasional (diversions, pedestrian crossings and behavior of other drivers, etc.) events, to ensure that the vehicle is able to adjust its trajectory and speed .

Google aims to sell the Google Car 2020.
