Placed in orbit another satellite for European environmental monitoring – Prensa Latina

June 23, 2015, 3:02 Paris, June 23 (PL) Sentinel 2A, the second satellite environmental monitoring system of the European Union Copernicus, was successfully placed in orbit today.

 1.1 tons, the body was thrown on board a Vega rocket from Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, reported specialized sources.

The core network of Copernicus system consists of six families Sentinel satellites.

Copernicus provide operational information on the surface, the oceans and the planet’s atmosphere, useful for decision-making in environmental and security policy, and to meet the needs of citizens and service providers, according to information disclosed.

Sentinel-2A is the second of a constellation of 20 satellites observe the planet in detail, said Jean-Jacques Dordain, director general of the European Space Agency .
