A vaccine against Ebola virus was effective at 100 percent for a clinical trial on the ground, in Guinea, more than 4,000 people, announced on Friday the main participants in the project.

“An effective vaccine against the Ebola virus is to reach globally,” he said in a statement the World Health Organization (WHO) He spoke of a “very promising development.”

The first results, published in the British medical journal The Lancet, show that VSV-ZEBOV vaccine demonstrated a efficiency of 100 percent in the first 10 days after administration in an uninfected person, but in contact with the sick.

The vaccine was developed by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and the license was submitted by the US Merck and NewLink Genetics Corp. The trial was made possible by a major international cooperation involving the WHO and experts from Norway, France, Switzerland, United States, United Kingdom and Guinea.

“If the results are confirmed, this new vaccine could be the miracle cure for Ebola and help halt the current epidemic and curb similar epidemics in the future,” he said by Meanwhile Borge Brende, Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The current Ebola epidemic, which broke out in Guinea in December 2013 and is the most serious in West Africa since it was identified this virus in central Africa in 1976, left 11,279 dead among 27 748 cases, a balance that the WHO considers even underestimated.

VSV-ZEBOV The vaccine is one of the two most advanced vaccines against the virus. The other, developed by the British firm GSK (GlaxoSmithKline) and the American Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), is currently being tested in Liberia.
