Experimental Ebola vaccine could stop viruses – The Universal

experimental vaccine proven in thousands of people exposed to Ebola in Guinea it seems to be working and may assist in the eradication of epidemic currently afflicting West Africa, according to results of a study published on Friday.

There are currently no approved treatment or vaccine for Ebola, which has so far killed more than 11 000 people since last year began the world’s largest outbreak.

If it proves to be effective, the vaccine could “alter the landscape,” said Dr. Margaret Chan, Director General of the World Health Organization, which sponsored the study.

In a 4000 people who had contact with Ebola and received the vaccine 10 days, there have been no contagion. That compares with 16 positive cases in 3000 more than 500 people who received immunization 10 days after contact.
