Apple buys technology used in Star Wars – Financial / Journal Financial Journal / Apple acquired the “Faceshift” technology that copies the movements of the face for implantation in an animation created by computer. This tool was used by the subsidiary of Disney, Lucasfilm, for the latest installment of the saga Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Faceshift runs on a grid of infrared points to detect objects and movement in three dimensions, including data collected by the camera movement and head position, gaze direction and location of the markers on the face.
