Beijing, China .- Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, said Wednesday that as of January 28 cease to apply the limit of 140 characters per message that had the likeness of US rival (which is blocked in the country).

The president of Sina Weibo, Wang Gaofei confirmed this decision on their own and at a time which is also rumored the possibility that Twitter abandon the rule of 140 characters.

Sina Weibo has about 200 million active users (compared to 300 million Twitter), although some Chinese platform has fallen into disuse in recent years due to the rise of WeChat, via mobile application that combines messaging services with their own microblogs and has 650 million followers.

In Chinese language, many words have a single character and most are only two or three, so Sina Weibo messages despite having so far the same space limitations that Twitter, could convey a lot more information.

The lifting of the limit shall apply from the 28th oldest users of Weibo, on an experimental basis, and a month later they will benefit from it all account holders on that platform.

The rumors to Rule 140 characters on Twitter have raised intense discussions on that and other social networks, but It has not yet been no confirmation to that effect by the firm. (EFE)
