Slaughter of 10,000 years speaks of origin of war – Digital Journal Juarez

Madrid – At about 30 kilometers from Lake Turkana in a place in Kenya called Nataruk, lay 27 individuals who were killed made between 9000 500 and 10 000 500 years.

has unearthed an international team of researchers led by Marta Mirazon Argentina, they presented this week in the journal Nature the forensic report of the slaughter of hunter-gatherers, the case of conflict between discovered so far oldest rival groups.

Of the 27 bodies found, 21 were adults (eight men, eight women and five have not been identified). Twelve of the skeletons were almost complete and some mouth were down.

One of the women was in advanced pregnancy, as found in the abdominal cavity remains of bones of a fetus of six to nine months. He was found sitting cross between the legs hands, suggesting it would have been bound hand and foot.

The other six bodies belonged to children, all under six years with the exception of a teenager, according to the analysis of their teeth, would have between 12 and 15 years.

The remains of small were about four women and two other adults whose gender is unknown. They did not show traces of infants near adult men.

“Nataruk is first evidence of intergroup violence among hunter-gatherers, regardless of the date, in this case about 10 thousand years. Violent evidence there before, but they refer to individuals, not two opposing groups. It is true that throughout the Holocene, with more modern date, no evidence of intergroup violence, even among Neolithic (and producers) and hunter-gatherers. For Nataruk, the two opposing groups are hunter-gatherers, “says Jose Manuel Maíllo Fernandez, professor of Prehistory and Archaeology of the Open University and co-author of the study.

Indeed, in the Pit of Bones at Atapuerca (Burgos) the skull of a man who was killed 430,000 years ago was found old, and that is the oldest crime that has been discovered. A few months ago, another team found the remains of a massacre of farmers that took place 7000 years ago on the territory of modern Germany.

“By the evidence we found at the site of Nataruk and numerous dates obtained can be certain of what was a unique event, “explains Fernández Maíllo.

Ten of the bodies have serious wounds that death probably occurred to them immediately. There are five cases (and one doubtful) associated with trauma injuries from arrows and five with serious head injuries possibly caused by a stick or wooden club. The bodies also have fractures in knees, hands and ribs and arrow wounds in the neck.
