Mysterious Planet X would cause mass extinctions on Earth every 27 million years – Blasting News

While scientists continue to debate the existence of a ninth planet in the edges of the Solar System , a new hypothesis suggests that an additional planet could be responsible for mass extinctions that occurred on Earth including the famous extinction that wiped out most of the dinosaurs .

Daniel Whitmire, a professor of mathematics at the University of Arkansas, published in the journal Nature your own version of a ninth planet called planet X in 1985 , and now has returned to suggest that this hypothetical planet could have been responsible for catastrophic comet showers that was in the past on Earth.

Planet X crosses the Kuiper belt once every 27 million years

According to the hypothesis Whitmire, a process quite simply explain the catastrophes that lived on Earth. Apparently, Planet X would be orbiting the Sun like any other body in the solar system, but once every 27 million years would pass through the Kuiper belt and divert a huge amount of comets toward Earth and the sun.

to further justify this theory, Whitmire says that some of the existing evidence indicates that comet rains occurred on Earth once every 26 to 27 million years .

“in 1985, an analysis of the paleontological record supported the idea that comet showers were common in the past 250 million years,” , said the University of Arkansas.

“new research shows evidence that these events also occurred 500 million years ago.”

also, these comets not only would hit the earth hard, but also be burned as they approach the Sun , thereby reducing the amount of light received by our planet.

the search of the planet 9

Although this hypothesis makes sense, we must note which it was not yet published in a magazine specialty, so it is actually a simple concept that requires further investigation.

in parallel, astronomers are still trying to determine what size is the hypothetical orbit of Planet 9 about del Sol. the astronomer Mike Brown of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), who leads a new study on the discovery of Planet 9 recently said that the object of his study has nothing to do with Planet X proposed by Whitmire.

“Whitmire has been speculating for decades on a massive planet capable of deflecting comets whose orbital period extends for 27 million years. Although the idea might be feasible, it definitely has nothing to do with Planet 9, which is much closer to the Sun and its orbit is 15,000 years “Brown said.

If more evidence, the hypothesis Whitmire could provide great information on how other planets in our solar system affect evolution here on Earth .

what about you what do you think? Do you think there are other planets besides we know in the solar system?
