US withdraws legal action against Apple over the iPhone encryption – Investing.com Spain

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – The United States Department of Justice said it agreed successfully to data stored on an iPhone encryption used by one of the authors of the attacks in San Bernardino and asked a court revoke an order requiring Apple (NASDAQ :) to help showed on Monday court documents.

the technology company opposed a court order obtained by the FBI last month required to develop a new software to disable the protection of keys and allow access to the iPhone used by Rizwan Farook, one of the shooters who participated in the attack in San Bernardino.

Apple saw the withdrawal as a victory .

“from the beginning objected demand FBI to develop an alternative entrance to the iPhone (also known as a back door) because we thought it was a mistake and would set a dangerous precedent,” Apple said in a statement broadcast on Monday night.

“As a result of the withdrawal by the government (of legal action), none of that happened. This case should never have been raised, “the company added.

US officials said last week they were optimistic that might be able to unlock the advanced without the help of Apple phone.

in a two-page document released Monday, the Justice Department said the government “no longer required” Apple support.

the iPhone under dispute was used by Farook, who perpetrated in December an attack in San Bernardino with his wife in which they killed 14 people and left 22 others injured.

Apple had argued that the Government’s request and the court order would give the courts an authority unlimited to force private companies to work as their agents.

“This case brings to light an issue that deserves a national conversation about our civil liberties and our collective privacy and security,” Apple said.

technology industry leaders including Google (NASDAQ :), Facebook (NASDAQ :) and Microsoft (NASDAQ :), along with a dozen other companies, legal presentations made to support Apple.
