After decades of VHS, the Japanese company Funai Electric, produced VCRs, decided to stop manufacturing them from August this year.

Funai VCRs manufactured for 33 years and currently kept open to supply the Chinese company Sanyo.

Funai Electric sold 750,000 units in 2015, well below the 15 million handsets that used to sell annually.

Another reason for this decision was due to the difficulty of finding the necessary steps to continue manufacturing parts.

It is recalled that the videocassette of Betamax, main competing VHS, were discontinued in 2002. However, it was not until 2015 when Sony announced it would stop producing this format in Japan.
