The ISON comet may have survived the Sol - El Periódico de Aragón

ISON comet, which was considered disintegrated after his trip around the sun, seems to have survived his space adventure. Although NASA scientists at first thought that the meteor had failed to cross the solar corona, new observations from other telescope indicate that although only stay in space a part of their small nucleus, the comet managed the dangerous traffic .

Scientists had debated

two days after the passage near the Sun ISON on 28 November on whether the luminous powder was perceived in telescopes was just remnants of his encounter with the star or comet nucleus was in its path away from the solar system. “It appears that a part of the core has been achieved through the solar corona and re-emerge,” said Karl Battams, one of the scientists who has followed the path of the comet.

ISON, first seen in September 2012 by Russian astronomers, is a special comet that comes from the Oort cloud, a bubble around the solar system and, it is believed, is formed by the remains of the nebula that gave rise to the Sun and planets 4,600 million years ago. “Now that has emerged and begun to shine we need to observe a few days to evaluate their behavior,” said Battams, who believes that the meteor is one of the most “extraordinary we have ever encountered.”
