Apple is working on a more difficult to hack iPhone – Parentesis

Bill Gates , founder and former executive of Microsoft, backed the FBI in its request to Apple to create a tool to decipher an iPhone . In an interview published in The Financial Times , Gates explained that the request made by FBI Director James Comey Apple is not about a matter in general, but one particular.

“it is a different situation … anyone should be able to request information from the phone company … or have your bank records,” said founder and member of the board of Microsoft.

Apple is in a dispute with the US government , which through the FBI asked the computer develop a tool to access information iPhone Syed Farook , the shooter who was shot dead in the Crossfire San Bernardino, California, where 14 people were killed. Cook has defended its position not to develop a software that allows decrypting an iPhone therefore argues, such a tool would undermine civil rights and would make the iPhone a vulnerable device to attacks by hackers . Yesterday it transpired an email sent by Cook to Apple employees which appreciated his support: “Apple is a uniquely American company. Does not seem right to be against the government in a case that focuses on the freedoms and rights that the government should protect, “said Cook in his message

Gates, however, believes the request of the FBI only has an impact on a particular case. “Nobody is talking about a back door . This is a specific case in which the government asks for access to information ; do not ask for something general, it is a particular case. Apple has access to information, but they refuse to give it. We should not put another name that access to information because it is not very different to ask something to a telephone operator or a bank. “

Meanwhile, the FBI director stresses that the request to Apple only seeks to facilitate investigations into the shooting of San Bernardino. The FBI seeks to know whether there were accomplices of Farook partner and find out possible links with the self-determined Islamic State (ISIS according to its acronym in English).

In a letter published last week in the Apple, Cook it endorsed the importance of maintaining the security of the iPhone: “the FBI can use the words you want to define this tool, but make no mistake: build a version of iOS that security in this way skip create a backdoor . The government may argue that its use be limited to this case, but there is no way to guarantee that control “
