The Leonid meteor shower will peak – La Vanguardia

MADRID (IRIN) Rain of the Star shooting (or meteor showers), known as Leonidas , will peak on the night of Monday November 17 . This event is one of the most anticipated by fans of astronomy, because it becomes like a real show, at times, to fireworks.

The showers of shooting stars, from which know more than 140 at the end of the year, are actually small fragments of comets (rock and ice) that enter the Earth’s atmosphere.

The curious thing about the Leonids, is that the remains left Tempel-Tuttle 1866 I committed are not distributed evenly orbit. Therefore, there are years when the Earth passes through the debris of this comet and finds the larger particles and abundant numbers, while at other times the intensity is somewhat lower.

The Astronomical Association Spain provides on its website a series of recommendations to best observe this meteor shower.

Mainly, good view of the phenomenon depends critically on the skies are clear and, if so, the Experts advise to stay away from city lights and into very dark areas to see even the weakest shooting stars.

In his view, the best way to see most convenient way to see the rain is to use a deckchair and advised to bring food, drinks, warm clothes and blankets.
