Asteroid will approach Earth on March 5 – Azteca News

Mexico, DF.- The asteroid 2013 TX68 is closer to Earth March 5, said NASA, which ruled out in order to hit the planet at that time.

However, scientists at the Jet Propulsion in Pasadena, California, identified a remote possibility that the asteroid 30 meters in diameter may impact the Earth on 28 September 2017.

NASA explained that in March this object will pass at a distance of between 17 thousand kilometers (nearest) to 14 million kilometers (the farthest) from the Earth .

The variation in the distance depends on a range of possible trajectories of the object, he said the US space agency said the specialists know precisely this asteroid’s orbit around the sun.

the manager of the Center of Studies (CNEOS), Paul Chodas, predicted that during the approach of asteroid to Earth in March, scientists can observe it with a telescope and gather data to help define more precisely orbit.

The scientist said the chances of a collision in any of the three future dates overflight (in March 2016, 2046 and 2097) are too small to cause any real concern.

The NASA reminded that this small asteroid spent two million kilometers away from Earth two years ago and was discovered on October 6, 2013 by Catalina Sky Survey.
