BlackBerry OS and Windows Phone have died – ElTiempo.com

In the universe of smartphones, two operating systems have emerged as leaders: Android (with 84 percent market share) and iOS (14.8 percent). The other two systems on the market have less than one percent stake. Windows Phone has 0.7 percent and BlackBerry OS has 0.2 percent. This was revealed by the latest report from Gartner.

According to the consultancy, sales of smartphones grew 3.9 percent in the first quarter of 2016 over the same period previous year. Anshul Gupta, director of research at Gartner, analyzes that large companies (like Samsung and Apple) are experiencing saturation. Emerging brands are taking advantage of the situation to design different business models and gain presence.

This situation is being exploited by Chinese brands to gain positions. Of the five companies that sell the most, three belong to China: Huawei, Xiaomi and Oppo. Lenovo stopped appearing in the group.

During the first quarter, Samsung managed to sell 81 million units, Apple, 51 million. Huawei recorded one of the highest growth in the sector. In 2015 it had sold 18 million units. A year later, he achieved almost 29 million.

Oppo, meanwhile, have increased from 2 percent of the market (with 6.5 million units sold) to 4.6 (16, 1 million).

the minimum presence of Windows Phone and BlackBerry has led to a reduction in their support of these operating systems. A significant example is that Facebook and WhatsApp is no longer available for BlackBerry OS.

The Canadian seems to have resigned and their upcoming products in the mobile segment will equip Android. Last year they released the BlackBerry Priv a high-end phone operating system available.

provides for the introduction of mid-range models and falls with the same system. Windows Phone failed and now Microsoft has focused its efforts on Windows 10 for mobile. the launch of a phone under the brand Surface 2017 is expected.
