A planet that usually appears dim in the sky shining will wear tonight in the sky of Puerto Rico

. known as the red planet, for many, Mars looks like a star showing apparent between yellow and orange colored.

“In recent weeks and has been seeing very well and Sunday night Mars will be in opposition,” he said the Astronomical Society of the Caribbean (SAC) explaining that the neighboring planet will be aligned or forming a line with the Earth and the Sun, so Mars will reflect sunlight optimally and will look bright.

“we can now appreciate from 8:30 pm toward the east. it will be unmistakable for his brilliance and peculiar color, “said the educational institution. the moon appears on Sunday night, a little below and to the left of Mars, while Saturn will be located just to the right of our natural satellite.

The SAC explained that although the so-called red planet and Earth closer together every 26 months when they coincide in their respective orbits, occasionally the distance is less and this month Mars is at its closest approach in one of each. Mars will be this month at a distance of 46.8 million miles (75.3 million km) from Earth.

Although Mars shines brighter on Sunday night for its alignment with the Earth and the Sun, the closest approach of Mars and Earth will occur on May 30. Both events do not occur on the same day due to slight differences in the inclination and roundness of the orbits of Mars and the Earth around the sun. The approach has enabled Mars to appreciate the curious details of the Martian surface.

“During our educational activities, many have managed to see through telescopes dark areas of the Martian surface and ice the Martian north pole,” said Juan Gonzalez Alicea, president of the SAC. He added that the portal SociedadAstronomia.com additional events will be announced to appreciate Mars and other astronomical objects.

Several members of the SAC have managed to obtain from the island stunning astronomical images, some of which are highlighted on the website of the organization as “Astrofotos of the Week”.

Efrain Morales, one of the astrophotographers of the educational institution, recently captured some photos showing various details of the Martian surface .

“By comparing images of Mars captured by Morales from his home in Aguadilla with those obtained by the Hubble Space Telescope, we can say that those obtained from the island are great,” said the SAC. He urged observe Mars during these nights. “Even with the naked eye, Mars draws attention in the night sky with its approach,” he said.
