With that purpose, the president announced that will convene this week in Pittsburgh to scientists, engineers, innovators and students of the united States “to imagine ways to build on our progress and find the next frontiers”.

In an opinion article published Tuesday on the website of the television company CNN, the president recalled, and after, that were excluded from the global market of commercial launches five years ago, companies in the u.s. now dominate this market.

“Today, thanks to the foundation laid by the men and women of the National Agency of Aeronautics and Space (NASA), these companies hold over one-third of the same,” Obama said.

The u.s. president noted that at present, more than a thousand companies through almost all across the country are working on initiatives space private.

Obama said that after the progress achieved in more than half a century, the aim in the next chapter of the space race of the united States is to send humans to Mars by the 2030′s, and return safely to Earth, “with the ultimate ambition of one day stay there for a long time”.

“Getting to Mars will require cooperation between the government and the innovative private, and we’re already on the right path. Within the next two years, the private companies will be sent for the first time, astronauts to the International Space Station,” he said.

Announced that the government is already working with its commercial partners to build new habitats that can preserve and carry astronauts on missions of long duration in deep space.

“These missions will teach us how humans can live off the Land – something that we will need for the long journey to Mars,” he said.

Obama was felt that to strengthen the leadership of the united States in respect of space will allow you to use your profits to advance in medicine, agriculture and artificial intelligence “and we will benefit from a better understanding of our environment and ourselves”.
