Spain denied a scholarship to the best young European Physical - La Vanguardia

Barcelona. (Editorial). – Diego Martinez Santos , the physical best young European , has no place in Spain. The Ministry of Research has denied the researcher born in 1982 in Foz (Galicia) the possibility of getting back to his country by scholarship Ramón y Cajal same day that the European Physical Society (EPS) has been named best young European Physical, recognition is awarded every two years.

The national commission of experts from the secretariat under the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness found that the Galician researcher’s curriculum, which has a three-year contract in Particle Physics Institute of the Netherlands, the Nikhef, did not have enough level for Spain, as he explained in Galicia voice .

Santos Martinez has been recognized by the EPS for their participation in the Large Hadron Collider beauty experiment (LHCb) of the Large Hadron Collider, located at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). In this experiment, the Spanish researcher analyzed the decays of a particle, the B meson or the strange beauty particle, in research that describes the interactions between elementary particles.

ministry’s decision has generated a great misunderstanding by Carlos Pajares, delegate of Spain at CERN. “The committee that evaluated either not looked well the curriculum or, at best, would give preference to other older researchers for whom this was his last chance to access a Ramón y Cajal” lamented Pajares La Voz de Galicia , strongly criticizing Spain because “what is not understandable is that you say below average”.
