Google becomes a virtual mobile operator – lanacion.com (Argentina)

Google today announced Fi Project, a connectivity service and mobile calls. The company is transformed, so, in a virtual operator (Renting other networks, connectivity and buying information call minutes wholesale), allowing you to reach directly to their users and change the way they shop Internet access (and use their services).

The service requires a special SIM card provided by the company, able to connect to multiple networks and choose the most convenient because it has agreements with multiple carriers in the same country. Thus, if two antennas LTE close, it will use the best car connectivity (albeit from different companies). It also makes use of Wi-Fi available for calls. The change will be transparent to the user

The service also connects the user to a Wi-Fi network if available, and if it is certified by Google as safe (the connection is encrypted.); according to the company, already has a million hotspots in the world.

Google Fi also allows the use of a PC or tablet to take calls, thanks to a VoIP (Voice) that company already operates in the US, and that defines a phone number and make it sound on multiple devices (a la Skype In and Tugo Movistar).

The Google service has a base price of $ 20 per month (for now, only in America) with domestic calls and unlimited access to the network of Wi-Fi worldwide (it is possible to make calls through it), to which the cost of connectivity adds : $ 10 for 1 GB of data and the same for the additional GB, with no monthly contract. But if the user does not consume all the data you bought, become money as a credit for next month.

Google Fi has coverage in 120 countries, including Argentina, that will maintain connectivity at no additional cost, but limited to 256 Kbps. Calls at home will cost 20 cents per minute.

For now, only available for the Nexus 6 (the only one, according to Google, which has the necessary to make the jump between antennas LTE) technology and the United States.

Google already offers fixed broadband service in the United States. .
