Vintage and “supercámara”: this is the new LG G4 – One San Rafael

We knew it would be something special. The new LG G4 was one of the last high-end smartphones that remained out this year, and all attention was focused on the next step of the Korean company. A difficult and competition, such as Samsung, HTC, Apple, Huawei or Sony, but decided to take the rest step.

The surprise, however, and despite a series of leaks allowed to see early pictures and features of the new terminal, it lived up to expectations. With a large 5.5-inch pantallade, its slightly curved shape, the back skin and exceptional camera (plus a totally unexpected processor), the new flagship of LG just introduced a series of simultaneous events in cities the world.

No doubt that this is a smartphone that catches the eye. His appearance, in fact, is “different” to what we usually see, exceptions, other manufacturers. Samsung, for example, differed with a smartphone doubly curved screen (the Galaxy 6 Edge), something that certainly stands out at first glance. And LG has done a terminal which is slightly curved, which has the rear deck covered in leather (handmade and in six different colors) and that looks, signature of the house, all physical buttons also on the back . Of course, those who prefer a more traditional finish have other options: ceramic white with 3D design, metal or gold. The curvature of the new G4, aside from aesthetics, is that the phone eshasta 20 percent more resistant to falls flat screen one.

As for the dimensions (148.9 x 76.1 x 6.3 to 9.8 mm), this is a terminal that is slightly taller and wider than the previous G3. It weighs 155 grams, not bad for having such a large screen. The leather back cover can be removed, giving access to the battery, SIM card and micro SD for memory expansion. In the words of Juno Cho, president of the mobile phone division of LG, the new G4 “is the most ambitious phone we’ve ever created.”

But look. If we start screen, we have a Quad HD IPS Quantum, the first of its kind, incorporating technology nanocrystals (quantum dot) capable of reflecting light with 20 percent more color, 25 percent brightness and an incredible 50 percent more contrast than conventional Hd Quad screens. Its resolution is 2560×1440 pixels, with a density of 534 pixels per inch. It also is the first screen Quad Hd using technology, Advanced In-Cell Touch (AIT), which allows to unite in a single layer LCD panel with a touch sensor. That is, that LG has managed to eliminate layers of the screen and make it finer, more tender and greater ability to reproduce colors.

The camera, outstanding

Of course, a screen and a camera needs to be able to take advantage. And it seems that, indeed, this is one of the best cameras ever installed on a mobile phone. The sensor is 16 megapixels, and stresses the F1.8 aperture, a feature that allows it to absorb up to 80 percent more light than the previous LG G3 and get quality images even in lower light environments. The camera also features an Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS 2.0), which doubles the performance of the previous model (the stabilization range goes from one to two degrees in the X and Y axes) and includes for the first time a third axis stabilization.

As in the previous model, the autofocus is performed with laser, so it is virtually instantaneous (0.2 seconds), but this time with the help of a second sensor , color spectrum (CSS), which is able to read the RGB values of any scene light and infrared light reflecting objects and adjust thanks to that information, both the white balance and flash color so photos are as natural as possible. These large capacity can be exploited instantly with the Quick Shot (rapid fire) function, thanks to which, by pressing twice in a row the back button, can take a picture immediately, without having to open the camera application and although the screen is off.

Another outstanding feature is the ability to save images, in addition to JPEG, also in RAW format, much heavier but retains all the information of the image and allows editing much higher quality. The front camera is 8 megapixels and, as in the previous G3, can be activated by gestures, opening and closing the hand twice on camera. The novelty is that you can now get up to 4 photos at two-second intervals. We will have to try all these features when the terminal reaches the market compared with its rivals, who have also made photography one of its strongest points.

Processor “surprise”

What has been a surprise is the processor. And choosing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 six-core Snapdragon instead of the expected 810 with eight (which is incorporating new HTC One Sony Xperia M9 and Z4), is something sobering. Will LG taken this decision to avoid overheating detected earlier this year in some tests with the 810? Or maybe something to lower the price and ahead of the competition in this regard? Experts signature justify the choice claiming that the eight nuclei while never used and that six would get the same results, but with the advantage of consuming less battery. We will have to check when we can have a terminal for evidence in hand.

The only certainty for now is that, at least on paper, the performance of 808 smaller than the 810, much as the himself Paul Jacobs, chairman of Qualcomm, has appeared in the presentation of G4 in New York to ensure that it has been a joint development with LG and specially designed for this model of smartphone. “LG and Qualcomm – said Jacobs collaborated early on in the development of Snapdragon 808 to refine best and the LG G4 can offer the best features.” In fact, it is the first time the Snapdragon 808 appears on the scene. We’ll see …

The processor is based on a 3 GB RAM, as most high-end smartphones, and has a battery of 3,000 milliamps. As in the. Previous Idol, LG has implemented a number of proprietary technologies that allow you to “stretch” up to 30 percent battery life, something much appreciated and, above all, very necessary when it comes to big screens and very high resolutions . Storage memory is 32 GB, expandable with Micro SD cards.

New Interface

With the new G4, LG continues to be part of the “club “Manufacturers who has decided to place its own user interface on that operating system, which in this case is Android 5.0. The new interface called UX 4.0 and is the first time it appears on a smartphone. With it, you can access a range of advanced settings, such as the aforementioned Quick Shot, which allows photos without opening the camera and the screen turned off by double clicking the back button. Every time savings for ‘urgent’ photos although I must say that the time it takes to open the camera is only 0.6 seconds. Other features allow you to automatically organize photos into albums and collections, or unify calendars and social networking events on one site.

The LG G4 is released on April 29 in Korea and will be available in Spain in late May or early June. Pricing will be announced locally in each market. A good strategy would place below 600 euros
