Microsoft opens Windows 10 for Apple and Android applications – El Nuevo Herald

Microsoft is hoping that more people use the next version of its Windows system in all types of devices, giving them greater access to the same applications they already use on Apple and Android phones.

In a radical change of strategy, a top executive said Wednesday to an audience of several thousand software developers that Microsoft will launch new tools to help them quickly adapt applications built for Apple and Android devices so they can function in smartphones, PCs and other devices with the Windows 10 operating system, to be launched in the coming months.

On the first day of the annual conference of software company, other executives showed more uses for holographic lens of “augmented reality” of Microsoft, the HoloLens, although no go on sale. They also announced the official name of the new web browser, called “Edge”, which promised to be faster and useful Internet Explorer, which had been a feature of Microsoft for 20 years.

All these initiatives are linked the imminent launch of Windows 10, the core of an ambitious plan to regain the stature Microsoft possessed when PC with Windows dominated the world of computing. Today, after losing ground to smartphones and tablets that run software from rivals Apple and Google, Microsoft wants Windows 10 is the universal software for computers, phones and other devices with internet access.

“Windows 10 represents a new generation of Windows, built in an era of personal computing,” he said Satya Nadella CEO, during his opening speech, noting that today’s consumers and corporate workers want to have the same experience when using various devices.

Although Microsoft had previously shown some of the new features of Windows 10, hopes to enlist an army of developers as allies in their campaign to build excitement before launch. The company uses a three-day conference called “Build” to show more characteristics of tools to build tools, with emphasis on mobile devices as well as desktop computers.
