Netflix, Tinder and Coldplay, among the winners of the Oscars of the Internet – El Colombiano

The company Netflix, the Tinder application and Coldplay are among the winners of the 2015 edition of the Webby Awards, considered the Oscars of the Internet, the organization announced Monday

The awards ceremony, which will be accompanied by actor Hannibal Buress, will take place on May 19th at Cipriani Wall Street room, said the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS) in a statement.

The Netflix online TV platform, which already triumphed in the previous edition, receive the special award of public and some of the characters in their programming collect their own awards including Ellie Kemper, “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”, recognized with a Webby for best actress and Chelsea Peretti, for an outstanding comic performance by One of the Greats .

The popular dating application Tinder won the Webby for a successful year for its 50 million monthly users, while the Ice Bucket Challenge, the famous cube challenge ice for medical research against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), took the Webby for best feat achieved by Internet.

However, the big winners of this edition were the #LikeaGirl campaign (as a girl), with 11 Webby for the triumph of his message against sexist language; TED platform of ideas, with 11 Webby in categories such as better implementation of education, and VICE Media, with 10 Webby.

Other winners were for the British band Coldplay, for the best use of video Ink interactive in the song; HBO website , to provide the best website for streaming series (audiovisual online content without option to download), and Buzzfeed digital medium, the best news app.

IADAS acknowledged to The New York Times and photo applications Hyperlapse and Mashable four awards each; the program of Ellen DeGeneres, with three Webby and Jimmy Fallon two for its online version.

They also carry a Webby home Evernote, a digital tool to organize work and improve productivity more 100 million users worldwide, being the best productivity application; The New Yorker, considered the web with the best writing and best web magazine, and Soundcloud, for the best audio streaming and the best music application.

The Webby Awards are considered the highest honor online by The New York Times and were determined between the public vote and a panel of, among others, David Karp, founder of Tumblr; Vint Cerf, one of the fathers of the Internet, and the editor of The Huffington Post, Arianna Huffington.
