The high-end processor Snapdragon 810 Qualcomm has had a difficult start since it hit the market earlier this year as first Samsung decided not to include it in its flagship phone, the Galaxy S6, then a wave of rumors claimed that the chip tends to overheat.

With all the negativity surrounding the 810, industry observers can not be blamed for wondering why LG – after using the 810 on your smartphone G Flex 2 – decided to use a lower quality chip (one Qualcomm Snapdragon 808) in its new smartphone LG G4, which was presented on Tuesday.

However, the decision to go with the 808 was resolved long before they began to circulate rumors about problems with 810, said Tim McDonough, head of marketing for Qualcomm, in an interview, trying to dispel any concern that LG would move away from 810.

“The decisions about what to put inside chips which phones dating back more than a year ago, “McDonough, who refuted rumors of overheating the 810, said as others have done before Qualcomm executives.

810 remains an important Qualcomm chip, so the company wants avoid the appearance that LG – an important partner – is moving away from 810.

In a sample of how significant is the 810-cycle Qualcomm new devices, the company came out with a statement in February that included half a dozen large mobile phone manufacturers – including Microsoft, Motorola, LG and Sony -. offering support to 810 and saying yes will use in its upcoming devices

The comments also show how Qualcomm company is trying to do more and more quickly respond to rumors and bad news about their latest chip designs. The manufacturer of the world’s largest mobile chips, whose chips are used in Apple’s iPhone and Sony Xperia line was slower to respond to rumors of overheating. When they spoke of Qualcomm, rumors had already become part of the narrative of 810.

The 810 and 808, released in the same period last year, are very similar, reaching the level highest line Qualcomm chips. One notable difference, however, is that the octa-810 has a faster processor core (eight-core), while the 808 has one of six cores. In addition, the 810 has more capabilities in ultra-HD video and graphics chips Adreno different.

“They are very cut from the same cloth,” McDonough said of both chips.

So, why 808?

McDonough says that much of the decision on the 808 had to do with the times. The 810 would be available first, so that was chosen for the G Flex 2, which was introduced in January. LG then had a choice between 810 or 808 for the G4, which is the first smartphone that introduces the use of a 808.

Although McDonough refused to discuss prices for the G4, the 808 is less expensive than the chip 810. Thus, while LG has opted for higher-end chip from Qualcomm for the display of curve G Flex 2 to 1 more experimental device – will have greater flexibility in pricing G4 thanks to LG 808. This flexibility allows either take more profits or reduce the cost to consumers, so the LG G4 more attractive to a mass audience.

Although Qualcomm has not spoken much about the 808 so far – focusing on the 810 instead – said that this year there will be more devices using the 808
