Google unveiled on Wednesday its new application phone messaging, Google Allo.

Available for Android and iOS, the app will begin gradually to be available in the different regions in the next few days.

The response from Google to the reach of Whatsapp and Facebook combined the telephone messaging with stickers , and a presentation style Snapchat.

But, what has -or has not – Allo that makes it different from its competitors? We present five keys to understand it.

1. Shout, whisper and make memes

The size of the font is adjustable through an arrow movable in the right-hand side. That is to say, to “shout” or “whisper” in the text, the case will not be the only option.

The pictures that are sent can be decorated with text or illustrations, but for now this option will only be available for Android.

The ren with the app-similar to Snapchat – are “designed by artists from all over the world”, according to Google.

2. Assistant indoors

One of the main unique features of the app is that it integrates the Wizard of Google. That is to say, to seek or ask for suggestions of something that you are in conversation, the participants of the chat can use it without closing the app.

For example, if two people are talking about Italian food, you can ask them to search for nearby restaurants or how to prepare a dish.

3. Do you read the mind?

The function intelligent answer allows the conversation to follow even if a user can’t answer, only click on send the response suggested by the chat.

This, which may be in text or emoticon, is based on your personality, from the information collected from previous answers.

Initially this function is only available in English.

4. What information vulnerable?

however, to have the wizard implies that the information is “temporarily” stored on your servers.

What is the meaning of “transiently”?

“Our position is simple: the history of your chat is saved (on the server of Google) until you choose to delete it. You can delete messages or conversations,” said a spokeswoman for the company.

Only hours after its release, several voices of criticism came out at the step of the app, including Edward Snowden.

5. Function incognito

There is a option that it offers to encrypt conversations as a way to prevent the wizard to “listen” or that the authorities will be able to obtain a copy decrypted.

however, this option needs to be activated.

This is a big difference with its main competitors. Whatsapp, for example, store messages only until they are delivered. And Telegram and iMessage Apple ensure that you do not scan the communications of its users.

“With the messaging services is not only to convince and to acquire a user, but to convince and to acquire a network of users,” says Jack Kent, IHS Technology, in conversation with Leon Kelion, editor of Technology of the BBC.
