Google’s autonomous car is ready to go out – lanacion.com (Argentina)

Google announced Monday that its first prototype autonomous car is ready to be tested in the streets. “We will spend the holidays at our test track and hope to see on the streets of Northern California next year,” wrote the team developing the self-driven in the social network Google + vehicle.

In May, Google had informed it would build its own autonomous car with the least amount of elements. “They will not have steering wheel, accelerator pedal and brake pedal (…) because they need them. Our software and sensors do all the work,” Chris Urmson had then written a blog on Google.

The firm has said that these prototypes battery can walk 40 km per hour and are designed as passenger cars, not luxury.

Monday’s announcement gave no details on other technical details, but showed a beetle, white, rounded style car.

Several manufacturers have been working on various ways to empower vehicles, such that they can park alone, but has not yet come to market a car completely autonomous.

Google is looking for partners in the automotive sector to develop your car drives itself, said project manager, Chris Urmson, in an interview published by the newspaper The Wall Street Journal.

“We want expressly to be an automaker,” he said. Meanwhile, ela company is manufacturing in cooperation with automotive suppliers, a fleet of new vehicles, announced Urmson.

Google hopes to change traffic in cities such cars, but still has no ready a business model for it, recognized Urmson. However established automakers are betting on cars that can operate autonomously in isolated situations, but to enable the driver to regain control at any time.

Google recently tested their technique in a series of car brands such as Toyota and Lexus.
